Shooting investigation continues in Alcorn County

FARMINGTON, Miss. — Alcorn County authorities say an 11-year-old boy they believe was shot by his father in a murder-suicide has died at a Memphis hospital.

County Coroner Jay Jones tells the Daily Corinthian that his office was notified Thursday that 11-year-old Andrew Loyd died at Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.

Authorities found the boy with his father in an apartment in Farmington. Fifty-one-year-old Billy Loyd Jr. was dead and his son was wounded. The boy was sent to the Memphis hospital.

Authorities say Loyd had posted on Facebook that he was in financial trouble, feared he would be evicted and his son taken from him. Loyd left funeral instructions and asked any reader to contact authorities.

An investigation is continuing.
