Woman released on $2 bond

COLUMBUS, Miss. — If a Columbus woman doesn't show up for her next court hearing, she'll have to pay the price.

In fact, she'll have to pay $2.

The Commercial Dispatch reports 28-year-old LaFreda Shante Williams was arrested last week and charged with two felony counts of uttering forgery. Municipal Court Judge Nicole Clinkscales released Williams on a $2 bond, the lowest possible amount. The $2 charge represents a $1 bond for each charge she faces.

While there are guidelines set for bonds, judges do have some discretion on the amount of bonds they order. Clinkscales was reportedly going to release Williams on a recognizance bond. However, since the charges are felonies, a dollar amount had to be set for her bond.

Williams' court date is set for Nov. 1.
