Float rider says partying caused float to unhitch

PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. — One of 18 float riders injured just after the St. Paul Carnival Association parade in Pass Christian says riders were bouncing up and down when the float came unhitched and veered into a ditch.

Police Sgt. Jason Edmonds tells The Sun Herald that everyone on the "Krewe of the Party of Rock" float was hurt, but most were treated at the scene. He says four were taken to a hospital and one was admitted.

Twenty-one-year-old Corey Oliver of Gulfport says the riders were partying after Sunday's parade when the float broke loose. He was one of those taken to a hospital.

Oliver said he had only a scraped shoulder. He said a woman broke her arm and another had to have surgery for a dislocated arm.
