Man sentenced in drug, resisting arrest case

ABERDEEN, Miss. — Federal court records say a man has been sentenced to 18 months on federal charges for assaulting a Cleveland police officer and possessing drugs.

Court records say Tavoris Griffin was resisting arrest when he assaulted Cleveland officer Darius Jenkins, who was working with U.S. Marshals, on Oct. 27, 2011.

Griffin was charged with assaulting the officer and two counts of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and marijuana. Griffin pleaded guilty in May in U.S. District Court in Aberdeen to one of the assault charges and one of the drug charges.

The other drug charge was dropped.

He is to report to prison by Oct. 15.
