Grand jury finds no wrongdoing in inmate's death

GULFPORT, Miss. — A Harrison County grand jury has found no wrongdoing on the part of authorities in the death of Richard C. Quinn of Biloxi, a Harrison County jail inmate who died in 2011 after a medical emergency in the jail booking room.

The Sun Herald reports the March term of the grand jury for the first judicial district in Gulfport filed its finding in a partial report released Monday.

The 30-year-old Quinn died Jan. 2, 2011.

Gulfport police had taken Quinn to the county jail after his arrest on misdemeanor charges of DUI other substance, possession of cocaine and paraphernalia, and traffic violations.

Authorities say the forensic pathologist who performed the autopsy determined Quinn died from ingesting a large amount of cocaine.
