Firemen Retire

MERIDIAN —

Two firemen from the Meridian Fire Department, Sr. Firefighter Michael Riordan, left, and Capt. Doug McKee, were honored with a retirement party Monday at Station 1 in Meridian. Riordan is retiring after 27 and a-half years with the department and McKee is hanging up his fire hat after 25 years of service to Meridian.

  • Threefoot Arts abound at Threefoot Art Festival

       Downtown Meridian was alive with art from all over the Southeast Saturday as artists gathered to showcase their work at the Threefoot Art Festival.
        Local and regional artists lined up along 7th Street next to City Hall to sell everything from metalwork to watercolor paintings. A moderately sized crowd of festival goers also enjoyed food from a number of vendors, live entertainment, and a large children’s activity area.

  • Donwell Second robbery suspect in custody

        The armed robbery suspect Meridian Police Department detectives were aggressively searching for Monday apparently discovered the heat was being turned up on him despite the freezing temperatures outside.
        MPD Capt. James Sharpe said around 11 a.m. Tuesday, 18-year old Kirby Donwell of Meridian turned himself in to officers at the Meridian Police Department.

        Last Thursday, the Board of Trustees of the Meridian Public School District voted unanimously to reverse its decision to terminate former superintendent Charlie Kent Jr. and instead accept his resignation.

    Based on fourth-year results from the Hospital Quality Incentive Demonstration (HQID) project, Rush Foundation Hospital received top performer awards in clinical areas of heart failure and hip/knee replacement and recognition attainment in the areas of heart attack, CABG, and pneumonia.
