MERIDIAN —
No one was injured Tuesday night in a shooting incident where a car was struck by a bullet.
Members of the Meridian Police Department responded to the area of 53rd Avenue and 5th Street at about 10 p.m. to investigate reports of multiple gunshots fired in the area.
Police discovered that a parked car had been struck once by a bullet.
"No other property was reported hit and no one was injured in the incident," a press release states.
Police are investigating the incident. There have been several instances reported this year of gunfire within the city. Eight people have died from fatal gunshot wounds.
There have also been incidents like the one Tuesday night where homes and cars have been struck by bullets but no one was injured. There have also been several nonfatal shootings.
The most recent was on Saturday night when a man was shot in the leg in a drive-by shooting at 16th Avenue and 18th Street. He was taken to a Meridian hospital for treatment.
Police are still investigating that incident.
Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (601) 485-1860.
