MERIDIAN —
A shooting at about 5:15 p.m. Monday left one person dead and another seriously injured.
The deceased woman's name is Lee Ann Temple, age 30.
The suspect, a 74-year old woman, is in custody.
According to Sheriff Billy Sollie, the incident occurred at a residence in the Lauderdale community on Northeast Cove Road. Sollie said this road is a dead end with a cluster of mobile homes. He said it was at one of these trailers the shooting erupted.
Sollie said the shooting victims are the grandson of the suspect and his girlfriend. Temple was pronounced dead at a Meridian hospital while the grandson was listed in critical condition at a Meridian hospital last night. Sollie said the victims were transported to a Meridian hospital via private vehicle.
LCSD Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said no charges have been filed. He said the suspect was taken to a Meridian hospital later Monday night suffering from an undisclosed medical condition unrelated to the shooting.
Sollie said a weapon thought to have been used in the incident has been recovered by investigators. He would not say what type or caliber of weapon it was.
Sollie said deputies were called to the residence and while they were en-route were told the shooting victims had already been transported to a Meridian hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. When deputies arrived they found the suspect inside the home.
