MERIDIAN —
Sunday, at the Meridian/Lauderdale County Public Safety Training Facility located on Sandflat Road, the members of the Meridian Shooting Club will present a $5,000 check to The Care Lodge of Meridian.
The donation comes from proceeds collected at the Billy Gene Jay Jr. Memorial Clay Shoot beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday at the training facility.
"We met with our memberships and asked them who they would like to see receive these funds we are raising with the memorial shoot," said Randy Sims, vice president of the club. "The Care Lodge kept coming up in the discussion, so we decided they would be our choice."
The Care Lodge Domestic Violence Shelter, Inc. offers a variety of comprehensive programs and services to victims of domestic violence in East Mississippi. Care Lodge provides services for approximately 1,000 shelter and non-shelter clients each year. All services to victims of domestic violence and their children are provided free of charge.
The clay shoot itself is named after Jay, one of the original contractors of the training facility who passed away earlier this year, Sims said.
"This is a worthy cause by some really good people who just like to shoot," Sims said. "Many of our members are former or current military personnel, local businessmen and leaders in our communities."
Sims said the club has more than 225 members.
Sims said there is an entry fee of $10 for 25 clays. For more information, contact Sims at (601) 562-6785.
