Armed robberies minutes apart

MERIDIAN —     Detectives with the Meridian Police Department are looking into two incidents that occurred early Tuesday morning in which Meridian citizens were robbed at gunpoint.

    Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, said the two incidents happened roughly 15 minutes apart and according to information from a press release he submitted, have very similar descriptions of the suspects and getaway vehicle.

    "There are some aspects of these two incidents that are very similar and we believe it is the same person who perpetrated both of the alleged crimes," Harper said.

    At about 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, a resident of Magnolia Courts Apartments located at 24th Street and 18th Avenue told detectives she exited her car and was walking to her apartment door when a lone black man approached her. The victim said the suspect was wearing all black clothing including a black hoodie with a fur liner. She said the man displayed a handgun and took her wallet and phone. She said he fled in a small brown car that was occupied by another subject. Harper said the victim was not hurt.

    Less than 15 minutes later, Harper said a man who was unloading items from his car in the 2500 block of 15th Street was robbed at gunpoint by a lone black man dressed in all black including a black hoodie. After the robbery, the victim said the suspect sped away in a small brown car that was occupied by another subject. Again, the victim was unhurt during the incident.

    In unrelated incidents reported by the MPD, Harper said a stolen vehicle was reported Monday night. The incident reportedly occurred in the 2300 block of North Frontage Road. Harper said according to the report, the owner of the vehicle, a silver 2010 Ford F-150, left the keys in the vehicle. The truck has a Florida tag #N771XY.

    Detectives are also investigating a residential burglary that occurred sometime Monday at a home located in the 1900 block of 34th Avenue. There was no information as to what was taken in the incident.
