The Meridian Star
The People's Charity Clinic of East Mississippi is hosting a free public forum on "Sleeping Under the Stars" Friday at noon at Union Station in Meridian as part of Hunger and Homeless Week.
After the forum, there will be a "Sleeping Under the Stars" event. In this event, participants will lose their identity and essentially become "homeless" for the night.
Given a new identity, participants will be paired with a homeless individual or a former homeless individual and go underground to see the trials and issues that are faced by homeless citizens. Participants will be given a scenario to follow and will have to find out where they will eat and drink, and where they will sleep. This event will not be cancelled because of rain or bad weather because homelessness does not end when the weather becomes intolerable.
Saturday at 10 a.m., the group will reconvene to discuss their experiences and make plans to help the homeless in this area. Church representatives, civic leaders in both the city and county are also encouraged to participate. For more information call The People's Charity Clinic at (601) 482-8442 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. The cost of the forum is free, but the cost of the "Sleeping Under the Stars" event is $50, which will be given to the homeless guide as thanks.
Also The People's Charity Clinic is requesting that all schools allow their students to wear green socks on Wednesday to honor Hunger & Homeless Week.
