Enterprise police chief struck by car, dies

ENTERPRISE — ENTERPRISE, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say a police chief in east Mississippi has died after being struck by a car while directing traffic.

Clarke County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Barry White says Enterprise Police Chief Randy Boykin died Tuesday while being flown to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Boykin had been chief for 12 years and also worked as a part-time deputy.

White says Boykin directed traffic at the main intersection in town every weekday morning to help with school traffic.

White says the Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating.

White called Boykin a good man who dedicated his life to public service and worked hard at two jobs to provide for his family.

Enterprise is about 20 miles southwest of Meridian.
