Planned power outage set for Chunky, Hickory

Residents living in and just outside of Chunky and Hickory in Southeastern Newton County can plan on having a power outage for four hours early Sunday.

Mississippi Power has scheduled an interruption of electric service beginning at midnight on Saturday for those areas.

The outage is necessary to perform system improvements at the Hickory substation, according to a statement issued by Mississippi Power on Friday.

Mississippi Power notified residents in the affected areas about the planned outage by mail.

A Mississippi Power spokesperson said Friday that the only way to perform the work needed to be done at the substation is during an outage. In case of bad weather, Mississippi Power plans to reschedule the outage.

Customers who have questions may call Mississippi Power toll free at 1-800-532-1502.
