MERIDIAN —
The city's downtown skyline will serve as the backdrop for what is being billed as "the hottest fashion event of the season."
Slated for Aug. 18 on the rooftop of downtown Meridian's Art District Parking Garage, the runway show will serve as the commencement ceremony for the first modeling class of The Pruitt Agency.
"It is with great pride that I present these lovely ladies to the world as models,” said Monique Pruitt, owner of The Pruitt Agency, as well as Fashion Week Mississippi.
The runway show will begin at 11 a.m. Seven local models featured recently completed the agency's "8-Week Road to Runway" program, which provided participants insight to the modeling and fashion industry.
"It provided them a great foundation as to what modeling is all about and how to get into the field," Pruitt said.
In addition to the basics, program participants received hands-on experience – from doing a video shoot in Atlanta to mock go-sees at local boutiques. They also will participate in Fashion Week Mississippi, which will be in October in Jackson.
“It has been an absolutely wonderful experience for not only the models, but also for me," Pruitt said. "I am already making plans for the next set of classes in Meridian and Jackson.”
Additional models featured in the show will represent Fashion Week Mississippi. Clothing will be provided by Skillz and Georgio’s in Bonita Lakes Mall, Cato in Bonita Lakes Circle and Maurice's in Meridian Crossroads Shopping Center.
A ceremony will precede the runway show, with graduates receiving their certificate of completion. Those who have signed with The Pruitt Agency will also receive their contract during the ceremony.
Tickets for the runway show are $10 and may be purchased from The Pruitt Agency, as well as Georgio's and Maurices. As a safety precaution, the rooftop fashion show is limited to ages 17 and older.
