Meridian Police are currently searching for a teenager who reportedly robbed at gunpoint a Meridian convenience store about noon Thursday.
Capt. James Sharpe, commander of the MPD's Investigative Division, said late Thursday the teen was last seen running through a field behind the D & N Curb Market located at 2926 State Boulevard. The suspect, according to a report to detectives from the clerk at the time, produced a handgun and made off with an undetermined amount of cash.
"We believe the suspect may have had a vehicle parked somewhere along 40th Avenue which is in the area he fled or he may have hidden out at a residence in the area," said Sharpe. "We are asking residents in the area to contact us with any information they may have about this incident."
No one was hurt during the alleged robbery.
The suspect was described as a medium to dark complected black man in his mid-teens standing about 5 feet, 6 inches tall. He was reported as wearing a blue shirt and blue baseball cap that had a red brim.
"The teen also was said to have had his hair in some sort of braids but that could've been part of his disguise," Sharpe said. "He also had his shirt up covering most of his face. But we are looking at the video surveillance tape at this time so we hope to glean some clues from that."
If you have information about this incident or suspect call the MPD at 601-485-1859.

The Drought Is Over
All Mason Irby was hoping for was to find a way on base.
The Southeast Lauderdale sophomore did that and so much more. Irby's single with two outs in the seventh inning broke a tie, lifting the Tigers to a 6-3 MHSAA Class 3A state championship win at Smith-Wills Stadium on Wednesday, and handing Southeast (32-7) its first title since 1966. -
