Live Updates — Class 4A baseball state championship Game 2 (West Lauderdale vs. East Central)

West Lauderdale makes a comeback, but can't finish off the Hornets. East Central wins 8-7, so the series will go to a deciding Game 3, which will be played Monday at 7 p.m. The Knights will be the home team for the contest.



Bottom 6th: 6:40 p.m. Delay is over.



Bottom 6th: 6:29 p.m. Lightning Delay With a West runner on first and one out, the game is being delayed because of lightning in the area.



Top 6th: A double and a single score one run for the Hornets. EC 8, WL 5.



Bottom 5th: McWilliams and Farmer both single to start the inning before Melton grounds into a double play. McWilliams out at third, Melton out at first and Farmer safe at second. Farmer moves to third on passed ball and scores on Stokes' single. EC 7, WL 5.



Top 5th: A walk and an error put two runners on for East Central, but Stokes gets out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts and a fielder's choice. No runs score. EC 7, WL 4.



Bottom 4th: Knights go down in order. EC 7, WL 4.



Top 4th: Hornets get three runs, all of which were unearned. The first came on a bunt with a runner on third. Stokes came home rather than making the throw to first for the third out. Darren Farmer couldn't apply the tag in time. EC 7, WL 4.



Bottom 3rd: Jamie Byrd is hit by a pitch and steals second, but Knights come away with nothing. WL 4, EC 4.



Top 3rd: A sacrifice fly plates the tying run after a leadoff single and a double. WL 4, EC 4.



Bottom 2nd: Andy Miller leads off with a double, but is left stranded at third after three straight outs. WL 4, EC 3.



Top 2nd: Hornets go three-up, three-down. Stokes strikes out two. WL 4, EC 3.



Bottom 1st: Thanks to a couple of errors and a pair of hits, West is in the lead. WL 4, EC 3.



Top 1st: East Central scores three runs on four hits and a West error. EC 3, WL 0.



We're about a half-hour from getting under way here at Trustmark Park in Pearl as West Lauderdale looks to close out the series with East Central. The Knights are going for state championship No. 12. Game time is tentatively set for 4:30 p.m. after rain delayed the start of the 3A championship game earlier this afternoon.
