Detectives with the Meridian Police Department said Monday afternoon a Russell woman has been charged with identity theft.
Polly Crocker, 26, employed with the E911 Commission as a dispatcher, was taken into custody Friday afternoon. Crocker is accused of obtaining and using personal information of another person to apply for and open a credit card account. The identity theft reportedly occurred earlier this month.
MPD Capt. James Sharpe said in a press release that information gleaned from the investigation has led detectives to believe Crocker committed this crime while at her work station.
Crocker's bond was initially posted at $10,000 but was later reduced to $2,500.
She is currently out on that bond awaiting determination of her case by the July term of the Lauderdale County grand jury.
"As far as we know this incident involved one person's information that was used to obtain the credit card," said Sharpe.
If convicted, Crocker could receive a $5,000 fine and/or five years in prison for a first offense.

The Drought Is Over
All Mason Irby was hoping for was to find a way on base.
The Southeast Lauderdale sophomore did that and so much more. Irby's single with two outs in the seventh inning broke a tie, lifting the Tigers to a 6-3 MHSAA Class 3A state championship win at Smith-Wills Stadium on Wednesday, and handing Southeast (32-7) its first title since 1966. -
