City Hall update

The City Hall renovation is moving slowly but surely, and progress has been made on the building’s exterior since The Meridian Star last visited the building in June 2008.
Most notably, the process of replacing hundreds of the terra cotta tiles that took so long to replicate is now well underway, with 400 of the 1,643 tiles now in place. And new mahogany windows have now been installed, replacing the aluminum windows that date back to the 1950’s.
There is still plenty of work to be done, with more than 1,000 tiles left to place, decorative front windows to install, and an entire interior to be rebuilt.
Meridian Mayor John Robert Smith estimated the exterior renovation could be complete by May. He said the city is working to begin interior renovation this spring, and that it will take at least a year and a half to complete.
