DEADLINE FOR HICKORY MUNICIPAL ELECTION: Candidates have until March 6th at 5 p.m. to qualify. First primary will be held May 5th. Second primary if needed will be held May 19th. GENERAL ELECTION is set for June 2 for MAYOR, ALDERMAN AND COMMISSIONER.
RECIPE OF THE WEEK: Barbecue Spare - Ribs In Crock Pot Recipe: Ingredients: one cup finely chopped onion, three-fourth cup lemon juice, three-fourth cup chopped celery, one tablespoon butter, three tablespoon sugar, three tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, one-fourth cup wine vinegar, thirty-two ounce bottle ketchup, one tablespoon prepared mustard, salt and pepper, three to five pound beef or pork Texas style ribs.
Cooking Directions: In skillet, saute onion, celery and black pepper in butter. Add to crock pot with remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on low setting for 8 to 10 hours (high setting 3 - 4 hours). Sauce can be doubled and freezes well.
