Pier 1 Imports to close in February

The recent rash of business closings throughout the country has hit home.

Meridian's Pier 1 Imports will close in February, according to the store's Fort Worth, Texas, home office.

"Pier 1 continually reviews new and existing store locations, to make sure we’re operating as efficiently as possible," said Whitney Rogers, Pier 1 Imports media relations specialist.

"Where necessary, based on that review, we are making the strategic business decision to close certain locations. We disclose store closings on a case-by-case basis as they occur throughout the fiscal year."

The Meridian store will officially close on Feb. 15.

"We hope our customers will continue to visit us until then," Rogers said. "Pier 1 has enjoyed serving our loyal Meridian customers over the years."

The Meridian store originally opened in January 1999 and currently has 11 employees.
