Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) officials allowed one lane of I-20 in Newton County to be reopened to traffic after a vehicle crash closed the Interstate earlier Friday.
The right lane of I-20 will remain closed until further notice.
A truck accident occurred on I-20 westbound just east of the Highway 503 interchange at Hickory, in Newton County. Both westbound lanes of I-20 were closed to traffic but one lane was reported reopened for travel by 5 p.m.
MDOT officials said the right outside lane of I-20 near Hickory will remain closed due to emergency repairs that will be performed on the bridge due to damage sustained from the truck. There is no definite time as to when the right outside lane will reopen.
"We urge motorists to slow down when approaching the area and drive with extreme caution," said MDOT District Engineer Ricky May. "MDOT regrets any inconvenience this necessary work may cause and will keep you posted as information becomes available on this closure."
