Newton County Sheriff Jackie Knight said early this afternoon a person is being held in the Newton County jail in connection with the Monday night shooting death of Charles Wash of Decatur.
Knight said charges would likely be filed against the unnamed individual either late today or Thursday morning at which time he will release the identity of the suspect.
Wash's body was found at about 10:15 p.m. in the Newton County community of Lawrence Monday just off Interstate 20 near a mobile home. He had just dropped off a co-worker when Newton County authorities said he was shot while in his truck. Wash was reportedly shot three times.

The Southeast Lauderdale sophomore did that and so much more. Irby's single with two outs in the seventh inning broke a tie, lifting the Tigers to a 6-3 MHSAA Class 3A state championship win at Smith-Wills Stadium on Wednesday, and handing Southeast (32-7) its first title since 1966. -
