Officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol said Friday a Clarke County man has been arrested and charged in the Jan. 26, murder of Daryl Hilton of Laurel.
Patrick Dewane Jones, 29, was taken into custody without incident at about 5:20 a.m. Friday at his home in Clarke County located at 367 CR 232. Authorities with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Clarke County Sheriff's Department were involved in the apprehension.
Jones was formally charged with capital murder and robbery. He is being held in the Jasper County Adult Detention Facility in Bay Springs.
Hilton, 27, was found by a passing motorist lying near his car at an emergency crossover road of Interstate 59 at mile marker 109 about three miles south of Heidelberg.
"The motorist noticed the car and when he stopped, he discovered Hilton's body nearby," said Sgt. Ronnie Carter with Troop H of the MHP in Meridian. "He could not get any response from Hilton so he called the authorities."
Autopsy results noting the exact cause of death has not been released.
