MERIDIAN —
Police officials said they have arrested a man who is thought to have fired several times into a home.
Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the Meridian Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division, said Monday the suspect, Keenan D. Chaney, 21 of Meridian, has been charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling. Harper said Chaney was already out on bond for an unrelated felony offense and would not be eligible for a bond hearing.
No one in the home at the time of the shooting was hurt, MPD officials said.
Harper said at about 4:50 a.m. Sunday, patrol officers were called to a home in the 1800 block of 18th Avenue to a report of shots being fired and bullets impacting the home. When officers arrived they were told a subject had fired the rounds into the home and then fled on foot. Officers were given a direction of travel and they began canvassing the neighborhood for the suspect.
Harper said in a few minutes patrolmen were able to locate Chaney who was hiding in a home. According to Lauderdale County jail arrest records, Chaney was found 15 minutes after officers began the search in a home located at 1904 17th Street. Chaney was placed into custody without further incident.
Chaney's court date has been set for May 20.
