MERIDIAN —
A woman shot a man Tuesday afternoon following a domestic dispute that escalated, authorities said.
State law enforcement officials said the woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon and is facing a charge of aggravated assault.
The shooting occurred at about 3:15 p.m. on Highway 11/80. Warren Strain, public information officer for the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, said a man injured in the shooting was treated at a Meridian hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Other officials said the man was shot in the left hand by a small caliber bullet.
The woman's name was being withheld late Tuesday pending formal charges. A gun allegedly used in the shooting was confiscated by MBI authorities, county officials said.
Initially, deputies with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department responded to the shooting call. The investigation was turned over to MBI authorities when it was determined the shooting occurred on a state highway.
Strain said the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation's investigation is ongoing. The agency is the investigative arm of the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.
