MERIDIAN —
Authorities with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department are still searching for a man who robbed a convenience store clerk at gunpoint in Toomsuba Thursday night.
Casey McElhenney, commander of the LCSD's Criminal Investigation Division, said Wednesday morning investigators are still interviewing witnesses and tracking down leads in the case.
"We are asking the public to join us in trying to solve this crime," McElhenney said. "We routinely follow up on tips and information provided by residents in connection with all sorts of cases so if anyone has just the least bit of information, that might be the one piece we need to put it all together."
McElhenney said the lone gunman approached the clerk of the Toomsuba Shell Convenience Store and ordered her to give him the money in the cash register.
"The clerk was outside and the suspect came around the corner of the store with a gun," McElhenney said. "He told her to get inside and get the money."
The clerk was unhurt in the incident.
McElhenney said the gunman fled on foot around the back of the building.
McElhenney said the suspect was a black male dressed in all black with a ski mask covering his face. The suspect is said to stand about 6-feet tall and weigh around 180 pounds.
Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (601) 485-1860.
