Officials with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said the elderly woman involved in the Labor Day shooting death of another woman has been formally charged with murder.
LCSD Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said early Wednesday afternoon Eddie Jean Naylor, 74, of 9551 Northeast Cole Road in Lauderdale, has been charged with murder in the shooting death of Lee Ann Temple, 30, who was allegedly shot Monday evening along with her boyfriend, Naylor's grandson.
LCSD officials said more charges were likely to be filed against Naylor in connection with allegedly shooting her grandson during the same incident.
"This charge just covers the shooting death," said Calhoun. "The investigation is ongoing at this time but we may see a charge of aggravated assault added to Naylor's case."
The grandson, whose name is still being withheld, is recovering from surgery at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. His condition is listed as stable by local officials.
At about 5:15 p.m. Monday, deputies were alerted to a possible shooting at Naylor's residence in the Lauderdale community on Northeast Cole Road. Sheriff Billy Sollie said this road is a dead end with a cluster of mobile homes.
Sollie said a weapon thought to have been used in the incident has been recovered by investigators. He would not say at this time what type or caliber of weapon it was.
Sollie said deputies were called to the residence and while they were en-route were told the shooting victims had already been transported to a Meridian hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. When deputies arrived they found Naylor inside the home.
