Spring Downtown After 5 Alive coming

MERIDIAN —     The downtown concert series that drew hundreds of residents of all ages to Dumont Plaza returns in April with a new lineup of performances and activities.

A press conference will be held today to announce events for Spring Downtown After 5 Alive. The five-week concert series which kicked off in fall 2012 was well received, according to organizers.

"It was such a hit that our plan this year is to have both a spring series and a fall series," said John McClure, executive director of Meridian Main Street.

Downtown After 5 Alive is a Main Street production and has a multi-faceted mission:

    • To provide a high-quality, family-oriented free mini-festival experience in downtown Meridian to showcase and promote the urban core.

    • To provide a venue for local and regional performing artists.

    • To serve as a catalyst for people to stay downtown to dine and visit entertainment venues after the program, while providing additional funding for Meridian Main Street.

Performances for the fall 2012 concert series included The All Brown All Stars, Scott McQuaig and The Tomcats, Wes Lee and Blue Roux and Britt Gulley and The Rest of the Mohicans.

In addition to live music, Downtown After 5 Alive features children's activities and food and beverages. Admission is free, the only cost is food and souvenir items such as T-shirts.
