A Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper who was dispatched Thursday to an unspecified incident suffered minor injuries when he apparently lost control of his patrol vehicle in the rain and struck a tree.
According to MHP Sgt. Malachi J. Sanders, Troop H Public Affairs Officer, Trooper Walter M. Blakeney was not seriously hurt but was transported to Lakeley Hospital in Forest for further observation and care. Sanders said Blakeney has since been released from the hospital.
Sanders said in a press release that at about 3:47 p.m. Blakeney was dispatched to an unspecified incident at the 94 mile marker of Interstate 20. Sanders said Blakeney lost control of his patrol vehicle and traveled off the roadway on the right side where it impacted a tree.
