Stories of underprivileged individuals being helped by those blessed with the means for a higher standard of living are reserved for movies, right?
Wrong. As Lisa Barfield, principal of Parkview Elementary School, will tell you, "anyone with a big enough heart," is eligible to make a profound difference in the life of a child simply by giving up a few minutes of their day.
Parkview Elementary School is looking for at least 10 role models, preferably male, for 3rd through 5th grade male students who need mentoring.
With more than 600 kids in the school, Parkview needs as much help as possible in ensuring the success and education of each student, both academically and socially.
Volunteers don't need to reserve whole afternoons — 30 minutes of the day would more than suffice — but they must exhibit consistency. Barfield said the school is willing to work around work schedules for those interested.
Those who want to build a long, lasting relationship and make a profound difference in someone's life should contact the school at (601) 484-4990.
