The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi is looking for people who have inspired others by living a healthy life with diabetes.
The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi will present the “Mildred Brown Diabetes Victory Award” at its annual diabetes Super Conference on Jan. 30. The DFM is now accepting nominations for that person who sets a healthy example of what a life with diabetes can ultimately be like — lived to its full potential and uninhibited by diabetes.
The main requirement for the Victory Award is a person who has lived with diabetes for 50 years or longer and has maintained great health and with it, a great attitude.
“We want to recognize a person who has blazed a trail for us to follow,” said Diabetes Foundation Executive Vice President Mary Fortune. “Persevering with diabetes for over 50 years is a noteworthy accomplishment. There are many challenges associated with proper diabetes management, and our goal is to not only encourage healthy management of the disease, but also to inspire others to follow the award recipient’s lead.”
The award is named in honor of Mildred Brown, a woman who valiantly persevered against diabetes. Each year, the award goes to someone who exemplifies the same unfailing optimism and resolve to remain healthy and in control of their diabetes.
To nominate someone for the award, please send the person’s name, as well as the reasons that that person should win the award. Nominations may be sent by email to msdiabetes@msdiabetes.org or mailed to the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi at 800 Avery Boulevard, Suite 100, Ridgeland, MS 39157. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 4.
