special to the star

Mississippi State University-Meridian and Meridian Community College will host a joint College and Job Fair on Thursday, from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. in the MSU-Meridian Kahlmus Auditorium. There is no charge for admission, and the event is open to college students and the general public.

MSU-Meridian and MCC will have representatives on hand to provide information about educational programs available at the two local schools. And, job seekers will be able to interact one-on-one with over 20 employers.

Event organizers say they are partnering in this effort to provide regional citizens with a convenient, one-stop location to obtain information about local higher education resources and also provide the opportunity for job applicants and employers to interact.

“MSU-Meridian and MCC offer a wealth of opportunity for students to attain their educational goals. And, our schools also serve as valuable resources from which employers have access to highly skilled and well-educated employees,” said Linda Butler, MSU-Meridian public relations and marketing. “This event unifies the efforts.”

Butler noted that while students at MSU-Meridian and MCC are earning degrees for a career change or advancement, many are also already making substantial contributions to the region.

“Being able to earn an associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degree locally enables many students to also work while attaining their educational goals, thus benefitting the students and the community,” she said.

During Thursday’s College and Job Fair, MSU-Meridian will have personnel on hand from Admissions/Recruiting, Advising Center, Veteran’s Services, Division of Arts and Sciences, Division of Business, Division of Education and The MSU Riley Center.
