from staff reports
A Grand Jury report released Friday says Lauderdale County's Juvenile Detention facility is still not up to snuff.
The report by the Grand Jury of the November 2009 term of the Lauderdale County Circuit Court recognizes that some progress was being made at the facility, but said more is needed.
Specifically, the report stated, "We do not feel that all the educational needs of the juveniles are being met while in this facility."
The report also said that the cells need more light, the bathroom facilities need to be updated, and the mattresses need to be replaced. It said the juveniles need more outside recreation time and that the center needs better eating facilities.
The Grand Jury also reported on the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, the District Attorney's office, the third floor circuit courtroom, and the overall courthouse. They recommended minor repairs such as paint and replacement of carpet and windows.
They recommended more space for CID at the sheriff's department, and found the overall courthouse to be clean considering its age.
