Leaf pick-up begins

from staff reports

It's that time of year again.

November is a time for Merdianites to take in the beautiful changing colors of the leaves, watch them fall gracefully to the ground, and then enjoy the privilege of raking them up.

The City of Meridian has begun picking up piles of leaf debris, and residents living inside the city may pile an unlimited amount of raked leaves at street side for pickup by Waste Management.

The leaves need not be bagged, but all other debris such as twigs and branches should be kept out of the leaf piles. The leaves will be picked up by a vacuum truck on each resident's normal compost pickup day.

Residents are asked to keep leaves out of the street itself and to make sure leaf piles do not obstruct storm sewers.

Leaf season will continue until March 3, 2010.
