National Hospice Month observed

special to the star

November is National Hospice Month.

The observance is an opportunity to encourage, honor and support the professionals, volunteers and family caregivers who have taken on the challenge of caring for patients at the end of life.

Hospices create a compassionate atmosphere, where patients are able to die with dignity – wherever they call home – surrounded and supported by loved ones, familiar friends and committed caregivers.

The dedicated men and women who provide hospice not only help terminally ill patients face natural death without feeling alone or unprepared, but they also help the families of patients cope with emotional suffering and loss.
