Jerome Hearn fondly remembered by family

Family members of Jerome Hearn fondly remember him as "fun," "loving" and "very giving."

"He would give his last to whoever," said his sister, Dana Chatman.

Hearn's aunt, Telesia Hearn Jones, agreed.

"During Christmas, he would buy all his nieces, nephews and cousins something. He was a good person," Jones said.

Hearn's caring nature makes it even more difficult for his family to accept his untimely demise.

At mid-morning Friday, police discovered 29-year-old Hearn's body parked at a vacant house in the 2300 block of 24th Avenue. He had died of apparent gunshot wounds in his car.

"He wasn't rowdy, he didn't bother anybody," Jones said.

Hearn was the second child and only son of Phyllis Hearn Chatman. In addition to Dana, he has another sister, Christina Hearn Henderson.

Hearn also was a father. His son, Altrevius "Tre" Bell is 11.

A 1999 graduate of Meridian High School, he was a truck driver and had previously worked for a local beer company.

"Since his death, so many people have said so many nice things about him on several Facebook pages," Jones said. "He's going to be well-missed, well-missed."

Funeral services for Hearn are scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Berry & Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
