The Mississippi Veterans Affairs Board has appointed Timothy Lockey of Collinsville as Cemetery Director for the Veterans Memorial Cemetery being constructed near Newton.
Lockey will replace Randy Reeves who has been appointed as Deputy Director of the Mississippi Veterans Affairs Board. Lockey recently retired from the U.S. Navy following a 26 year career. He served in various assignments around the world and is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served as Senior Enlisted at Branch Medical Clinic, Meridian and most recently as Medical Department Leading Chief Petty Officer on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt.
Ricky Horton of Decatur has been appointed as Maintenance Superintendent for the new Veterans Cemetery. He is an Air Force Veteran and a Veteran of the first Gulf War. Horton owned and operated Horton's A1 Plumbing and Construction and has more than 20 years commercial/industrial maintenance experience. He will be responsible for day-to-day cemetery operations.
The official ground breaking, marking commencement of construction, will be held Thursday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. on the Cemetery site located on Highway 80 between Newton and Hickory. Speakers for the event will be Mississippi State University President, Dr. Mark Keenum, Thomas Paquelet from the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, D.C. and Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant.
The public is invited to attend.

The expanded version of the current farmer's market will take place on the first Saturday of every month from June-November at Singing Brakeman Park in Meridian near Union Station. -
