Star Of The Week: Susan Oglesby

MERIDIAN —     A Meridian native, Susan Oglesby, assistant manager of Landmark Apartments and Stratford Manor Apartments, says she wouldn't want to live anywhere but her hometown.

"It's where all my family and friends live," Oglesby said. "I grew up here. I have moved off a couple of times, but I always move back. I consider it my home. I love everything about it."

Her "hobby," is spending time with her two grandchildren, Cooper, 5, and Ella Catherine, 1.

"I'm crazy about them," Oglesby said. "I get them every other weekend. They have brought so much joy into my life. It's unbelievable."

In the summer she also enjoys swimming and cooking on the grill, she said. She also enjoys reading.

She has been in apartment management for about five years and she enjoys it because she likes working with the public.

"I love my job and I get along well with everybody," she said. "Everybody is so easy to talk to when they come in. I'm a people person."

Since the construction of the Mississippi Power plant began in Kemper County, the apartment business has been busy here.

"We have so many people from the power plant that are moving in and calling every day," she said. "If we had 15 empty apartments a month, we could rent them to the power plant people."

She is a member of Evangel Temple Church, which recently built a new building.

"It's such a happy place. Everybody just gets along. When you come in they make you feel welcome," Oglesby said. "I'm real satisfied with Meridian. I wouldn't move away. My parents live two driveways down from me. My whole family lives out there where I live and we're a very close-knit family. I'm just really blessed."
