MERIDIAN —
Meridian authorities are searching for a man who allegedly robbed patrons of a local bar and shot one person.
Meridian Police Department Capt. Dean Harper, commander of the department's Criminal Investigation Division, said Wednesday the man who was shot was taken to a Meridian hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to remove a bullet from his lower abdomen. Harper said the shooting victim is expected to make a full recovery.
At about 10 p.m. Tuesday, Harper said a black man armed with a handgun walked into the Neighborhood Lounge located at 5305 First St. The suspect was described as wearing a black hoodie and a mask of some type. Once inside, the man robbed one of the patrons and attempted to rob another, Harper said. When he was unsuccessful in the second attempt, the man ran away.
Harper said two of the patrons attempted to apprehend the robber and during the foot chase the suspect turned and fired a shot that hit one of the men. The other stopped to render assistance to the shooting victim and the suspect was able to escape.
If you have any information pertaining to this crime you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at (601) 485-1860.
