MERIDIAN —
A man Alabama authorities believe shot and killed his wife turned himself in Monday to officials at Troop H of the Mississippi Highway Patrol in Meridian.
Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun confirmed Monday afternoon that Fredrick Boyd was in the Lauderdale County Adult Detention Center in downtown Meridian awaiting extradition back to Aniston, Ala. Calhoun said authorities from Aniston were expected to pick up Boyd either Monday night or this morning.
According to The Aniston Star, Boyd, a former warrants officer for the Aniston Police Department, was being sought in connection with the death of his wife, and another shooting incident at a Hobson City resident's home. In addition to being the prime suspect in the murder investigation, Boyd also will be charged with attempted murder in the Hobson City incident.
Calhoun County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Matt Wade told The Star Boyd reportedly showed up at the Hobson City resident's house Monday morning, knocked on the door, and fired a gun at a resident. The resident fired back, Wade said.
Aniston Police Department Capt. Shane Denham said Boyd, who resigned from the police department in 2011, had been working as a security guard. Boyd resigned from the department last year amid a certain amount of controversy, The Star reported.
