MERIDIAN —
While Curtis Strickland plans to mark his 50 years of service next weekend by saying goodbye to Naval Air Station Meridian and beginning his travels, NAS Meridian will celebrate it's 50th anniversary by bringing in a huge traveling air show for the community.
The 2011 Golden Wings Over Meridian air show will welcome thousands to NAS Meridian on March 26-27.
The opening ceremony for the two-day air show will be at 11:15 a.m. with the Black Daggers — the U.S. Army Special Operations Command Parachute Demonstration Team.
Parking gates will open at 8 a.m. with festivities and vendor booths opening at 9 a.m.
The Navy's elite demonstration team — the Blue Angels — will be the grand finale act. Special exhibits will be located on the south end of the east side of the hangar.
A classic Warbirds Demonstration Team also will take to the sky over NAS Meridian, known as the Trojan Horsemen.
Also scheduled to perform is the Viper West Team, one of two F-16 demonstration teams in the U.S. Air Forces' Air Combat Command.
Many Static Aircraft displays will be set up for the air show.
Tune in to 97.1 FM and 105.7 FM on Air Show dates for traffic updates when driving to the air show. Go to NAS Meridian Air Show 2011 Facebook and twitter pages for updates. General parking is accessible from Highway 45. All vehicles up to and including 15 passenger vans should enter from Highway 45, however activity busses should arrive via Highway 39.
