MERIDIAN —
The Meridian Little Theatre is bringing back "Cats" for its 80th season, opening Oct. 11, under the direction of Jimmy Pigford.
Also coming back for the renowned Andrew Lloyd Webber production are State Rep. Greg Snowden and former Meridian Mayor John Robert Smith, who will recreate the roles they played in MLT’s 2006 production.
Snowden will portray Old Deuteronomy, an extremely old and wise cat who is the leader of the group. Smith will revise the role of Gus, the theatre cat with many wonderful tales to tell of his life on stage. The former Mayor lives in the Washington D.C. area, but will return to Meridian to appear in “Cats."
Amy Poole McMinn will portray Jellyorum and Scott Farmer is Munkustrap. Their characters act as guides and protectors of the other cats and are co-narratives of T.S. Elliot’s story.
The coveted role of Grizabella who sings “Memory” went to Noel Barefoot. She is a graduate of Belmont University with a B.A. in music.
Jeremy Sande, a well known actor in Meridian and an employee of Weidman’s will play Rum Tum Tugger, a rock and roll cat adored by the female cats. Sande has starred in “Cabaret” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” for MLT. He is presently preparing to be in a film.
The role of pretty Jemima, a cat who follows and helps Grizabella, will be played by MLT newcomer Melissa Anderson.
Bombalurina, a sensual, devil may-care cat will be played by Sara Carmichael. She starred in "Cabaret" for MLT and is campaign chairman with the United Way of East Mississippi.
Colton Tinsley won the role of Macavity, a sly, mystery cat who gets away with many misdeeds. Tinsley last appeared in “Footloose” at MLT.
Laura Huff and Tanner Goldman will portray Rumpelteazer and Mungojerrie, a pair of naughty, cocky twins who are always up to mischief.
The role of Jennyanydots, an old Gumbie Cat who sits around all day but organizes the mice by night, was landed by Jessica Richard.
The chorus and dancers are Haley Heard, Bailey Duke, Lacey Lewis, Brittany Butler, Liza Hannington, Stacey Pollock, Jennifer Hunter, Michelle Johnson, Tana Clay, Stephanie Maxwell and Chuck Enderlin.
