MERIDIAN —
It was the kind of report that all of the members currently sitting on the Lauderdale County Board of Education love to hear.
In a presentation by Ryan Powell and Teri Edwards of the school district, the district's achievement scores in the Statewide Accountability Testing shows the district has risen in its achievement scoring from 172 in the 2008-09 school year to 175 now.
"We are very proud of our administrators, teachers, staff and students for working so hard to achieve these results," said Randy Hodges, superintendent of the Lauderdale County School District. "We were good before, now we have gotten even better, so this is good news."
Powell said there are no schools, from elementary through the high schools, that are on academic watch, which means none are falling below the state minimums in testing. Powell said that out of the 12 schools in the county district, 10 met growth parameters, with Clarkdale Elementary and West Lauderdale High School earning Star Schools designations.
"Quality principals, teachers and students have done this," Powell told the board members. "As a district we have done very well."
In other actions, the board members approved the issuing of $400 to the football team at Clarkdale High School in the name of Micah Redmond, a CHS graduate last year and standout football player who was killed last week in a traffic accident in Jones County.
Board members also approved bids for the spraying of herbicides on 16th Section lands. The bid amounts to Timber Investments were for $61 per acre, and $74 per acre on another tract of land.
