MERIDIAN —     The Meridian-Lauderdale County Public Library is celebrating Library Card Sign-Up Month with several programs in place throughout September.

A kick-off party is planned for 3 p.m. Wednesday in the library lobby. Light refreshments will be served.

To get a library card a person must live, work, or go to school in Meridian or Lauderdale County, show a driver's license with current address and a second form of identification with a current address. Out-of-county residents may purchase an annual library card for $15.

Children as young as 6 years old may obtain a library card. Students need to bring a school ID or school schedule if they are a student in any Lauderdale County school.

During the month of September, anyone who has misplaced their library card can get a replacement free of charge if their account is in good standing.

A Food For Fines program will also be in place, whereby patrons can eliminate their library fines and help LOVE's Kitchen at the same time by donating canned goods to the Food For Fines Drive. One can of food can be used to wipe out $1 in fines. The Food For Fines Drive does not apply to lost items and associated fees.

Also through September the library plans to highlight best selling books and staff favorites.

The Meridian-Lauderdale County Public Library is located at 2517 Seventh St. Regular hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
