MERIDIAN —
In celebration of one of autumn’s favorite traditions, the October edition of Meridian Main Street’s Earth’s Bounty this Saturday will feature a master pumpkin carver who will demonstrate her skills and offer tips and advice to amateur carvers.
Those tips could come in handy for children who want to enter their own carved pumpkins for judging during Main Street’s second annual Candy Crawl on Oct. 30 in downtown Meridian.
“We saw this as a perfect opportunity for two of the community’s favorite events to complement each other,” said Main Street Executive Director John McClure. “You can watch a master carver and get great ideas at Earth’s Bounty, buy your pumpkin there from one of our vendors, take it home, carve it in your own creative way, then bring it to the Candy Crawl for the competition there.”
The October Earth’s Bounty, the fifth in a series of six festivals for the 2012 season, will be Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Singing Brakeman Park, adjacent to Union Station on Front Street in downtown Meridian. The festival will once again feature fresh produce and a wide variety of home packaged and processed food products.
Returning this month is Stilt Man, a crowd favorite during his appearance earlier in the summer. Children will once again enjoy the inflatable jump house and bungee jump. The Railroad Museum will be open for free tours. October’s concessionaire will be Kelva McRae, who will be selling barbecue and chicken sandwiches.
Al Brown and Otha Barham will provide the opening set of entertainment on the Earth’s Bounty stage, followed by a new act for the festival — State Sen. Videt Carmichael on the mandolin, along with Brother Sweeney.
The final festival of the season will be Nov. 2 in conjunction with Railfest and the Soule Steam Festival.
