MERIDIAN —
At about 1:30 p.m. Thursday an 18-wheeler apparently tried to cut the corner at 8th Street and 25th Avenue hitting the pole and snapping it half way up, according to authorities.
Meridian Police Department officials closed down the street and 25th Avenue for several hours. No one was injured in the mishap.
Mississippi Power crews were on the scene for several hours to replace the pole. There were short power outages experienced in the area as crews repaired the pole in the afternoon. Officials with Mississippi Power said electricity was off until about 7 p.m. as crews worked on the problem. Power was out and traffic lights hung without life during the after commutes for most motorists.
City of Meridian officials set up temporary stop signs at some locations to help with traffic flow.
The cause of the accident was under investigation.
