Area may receive snow this weekend

MERIDIAN —     An old English proverb describes typical March weather as, "Coming in like a lion and going out like a lamb."

If the forecast for this weekend comes to pass, then the lion is going to come in more like a snow leopard.

David Sharp, director of the Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency, said his conversations with meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Jackson seem to indicate that our area late Friday night and into early Saturday morning may see enough snow flurries to leave behind a light dusting.

"Earlier this week we weren't even in the conversation for any kind of snow and now, according to Jackson, we may be right in the middle of it," said Sharp.

Granted the weather system that will slip though is very weak but the chances are still there given the scant amount of moisture expected to be in the system. Coupled with the cold temperatures of the air mass that have brought the thermometer down in the last two days, the chance is still there.

The lows Friday night are forecast to be in the high 20s. Whatever falls, though, will quickly melt away as soon as the sun comes up Saturday as the temperatures are supposed to be in the mid to high 40s and reaching 50 for Sunday's high.
