MERIDIAN —
A death investigation has been launched in the discovery early Wednesday morning of a man found dead alongside a road in southern Lauderdale County.
Officials with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday afternoon the man, Jerry Partridge, 60, of the Tuxedo area of Meridian, was found at about 6:30 a.m. on the side of Springhill Loop Road.
The body was found roughly 100 yards from where Springhill Loop Road meets Highway 19 South.
"We are looking into this but at this time we don't have any reason to believe there was any foul play," said LCSD Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun. "The victim's personal belongings, such as his wallet, were still on his person."
Calhoun said an autopsy has been ordered to try and determine the exact cause of death.
Calhoun said Partridge's truck was found against a tree a short distance from his body. Calhoun said it appears Partridge ran off the road and struck the tree. Partridge then exited the vehicle and apparently began walking down the road when he died from as yet undetermined reasons, said Calhoun.
