MERIDIAN —
The wait continues for a Meridian woman jailed in Macedonia for the last several weeks.
Candi Dunlap, a nurse who was on a mission trip with fellow members of Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church, was stopped at the Skopje, Macedonia airport on Sept. 28 and charged with attempting to smuggle priceless artifacts out of the country. She was on her way home when she was stopped at the airport.
Her trial was held on Monday, Oct. 15 and at the time, the judge said she would rule on the case by Friday, but according to a Facebook post on Friday, that did not happen.
The post read: "Just received news that hearing by judge has been postponed until next Wednesday," the post said. "This is such a blow to their spirit. Please continue to pray for renewed strength for each of them. God bless!"
Dunlap's husband Marc is still in Macedonia. After the trial on Monday, the following message was posted.
"As you know, Candi's trial was this morning.
It lasted for about two hours. Candi did very well, answering questions and making statements," the post said. "She had a young lady in the courtroom that was interpreting for her. Candi was on the stand for the duration of the trial."
Marc Dunlap included thanks to all of the people who are praying for his wife.
"The outpouring of support and prayers is overwhelming. I want to thank each and everyone although I may never know all of you," he said. "May God be glorified through all of this."
The U.S. State Department is monitoring the case closely, a spokesperson said last week and embassy officials in Macedonia have been able to visit with Dunlap to make sure that she is being treated fairly.
A fund to help pay for expenses related to the situation has been set up at Citizens National Bank in Meridian. T-shirts are on sale as well. To order, go to Prayers for Candi on Facebook.
