MERIDIAN —
An attempted traffic stop turned into a chase and then an arrest Friday leading to the suspect being charged with several offenses Monday.
Ward Calhoun, chief deputy with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, said Monday afternoon, Lafelix Granger, 22, of 1240 Will Wright Road, was taken into custody Friday at noon by agents of the East Mississippi Drug Task Force.
Granger has been charged with possession of drugs while in possession of a firearm, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of Xanax with intent to distribute.
Calhoun said Granger's bond was set at $10,000 for each charge. Granger, according to jail records with the Lauderdale County Adult Detention Center in Meridian, has posted bond and is currently out of jail.
Calhoun said shortly before noon Friday agents with the EMDTF attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Toomusba area that they said was driven by Granger. Granger reportedly tried to flee in the vehicle but the chase lasted only a short distance before the agents executed the stop and took Granger into custody.
During the preliminary investigation, Calhoun said a gun and the illegal narcotics were discovered in Granger's possession. Granger was taken to the jail in Meridian and was processed. The formal charges were then filed Monday morning.
